Our goal for this course is to take you to a place where you are comfortable using the medicinal herbs for the daily needs of yourself and your family. Folk herbalism was once commonplace among all cultures. People were empowered to work with the healing plants growing all around us for their daily health challenges. We can reclaim that knowledge and that power, and begin once again to cultivate relationship with the healing plants.

The DIY Herbalism Program will offer experience with:

• herbal medicine making, including teas, tinctures, infused oils, vinegars, salves, creams and more

• developing your own materia medica (the herbs you know and work with intimately)

• tips on growing and wildcrafting herbs safely and ethically

• herbal energetics and how taste gives us clues to the medicinal actions of herbs

• making and using flower essences

• creating an herbal first aid bag

• plant communication — the art of opening yourself to the plant spirits

• herbal formulation — begin to develop your own recipes by combining plants that work together in combination

• topical uses of herbs

In each class we will cover one of the basic medicine making techniques, key concepts in herbalism (terminology, energetics, formulation, wildcrafting, harvesting, processing, ethical issues, and more), and we will make something in class for you to take home.

Those who wish to earn a certificate for the course have the option of doing a final project and participating in a medicine show on the last class. However, it is important to understand that this certificate just shows you understand the foundations of herbal practice. Practicing as a clinical herbalist in the community requires much more training than we can cover in this beginner level course.

The live classes will give you a chance to experience the plants with your senses and get hands-on medicine making experience. I invite you to take what we learn in each class and try it for yourself between classes. In this way, you make the knowledge your own and can bring your questions to the following class. In addition, I am available between classes to answer your questions if needed.

It is April’s joy and passion to help folks get comfortable working with plant medicine so they can reclaim that connection to the healing plants that all of our ancestors once had.

Location: Areté’s newly renovated barn studio in historic Unionville, PA
(near Kennett Square — exact location will be given once registered for privacy reasons because this is a residential property)

Class Schedule: Class will meet once per month for 9 months at the same time and day for 4 hours.

Tuition Payment Options:

$1,080 Pay in full option — If you’d like to register for the pay in full option, please select the “DIY HERBALISM PROGRAM: PAY IN FULL OPTION” on the shop page or go HERE.

$1,180 Payment plan option — 5 payments of $236/month, starting immediately upon registration. Your payment will come out on the same day each month as your original date of registration. This is the ticket page for this option.

April Coburn is a clinical herbalist, teacher, and formulator living in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. She has taught beginning and advanced herbal medicine making in her community for the past ten years. Her clinical practice focuses on helping folks struggling with peri and post menopausal issues and empowering them to embrace menopause as a transformative and empowering life experience.
